The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for long-term couples who are fans of horror films: Sit down with your loved one and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 recently had its streaming debut on Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like typical physical horror, but inside Together lies a profound examination about how we choose to love each other.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together marks the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a special spark to their characters, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot starts when Tim and Millie relocate from the metropolis to the rural area for professional reasons. A commonly used narrative setup, of course, but that’s largely where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their new home, a storm hits, and the two discover an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a slow burn horror experience, blending elements of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). The director weaves these elements together neatly and presents them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his floundering music career gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and distant from his network of friends. He fears the notion of completely losing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he can’t drive and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie refrains from painting Tim or Millie the definite antagonist.

Both characters face the kind of problems that come with most partnerships after ten years. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory never feels overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have seen the movie as a compelling reason for staying single. Conversely, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own interpretation could function as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion inspire anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can undertake right now.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu now.
