A man who contaminated treats with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children aged between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.
She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.
She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel stated objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his family member alerted the authorities about his concerns.
She explained the defendant went on to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.
The legal representative explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement again.
She said the man then played the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
